Update.

Well it has been 3 years now and we sure have found some interesting things. The dishwasher freezes in the winter. In order to get it to run you must pull up the counter (explains why the counter was not nailed down) and use a hairdryer to thaw it out. The reason the unit becomes so cold is because whoever installed the it felt the need to remove the lath and plaster in order increase the shallow depth. So that is on the list of fixes. While we are on the subject of the kitchen. We removed the cheap wood laminate, a layer of vinyl tile and the some sub-flooring to get down to the original wood floor that was in pretty good shape. Before the removal of the aforementioned layers the kitchen floor was close to an inch and a half taller than the rest of the main floor with a nasty lip.
